  • Involved in all stages of the daily workflow in the Histology Department including the gross room, frozen sections, routine embedding and cutting of tissue including cytology where I assist surgeons with FNAs for pathologist to read, as well as IHC department where I performed special stains and immunochemistry staining

Key Deliverables

  • Responsible for the handling and transfer of human tissue to be processed for further histological studies.
  • Fixation, processing, and decalcification of various tissue types in which the lab averages 350-550 cassettes a day.
  • I can embed 140 cassettes in an hour and a half and cut tissues in the same amount of time, H&E staining, coverslip and distribution.
  • Prepare and accession specimens for gross examination and cytological specimens preparation.
  • Properly identify, label, and assemble histology and cytology slide cases to create complete quality cases for pathologist to read slides efficiently.
  • Perform and troubleshoot special stains, cut special stain controls, and perform stain quality check.
  • Assembling H&E, IHC, and Special Stains into complete cases for doctors to read.
  • Aid Doctors with frozen section as well as aiding surgeons with cytological procedures for rapid testing.
  • Maintaining of all equipment on a daily basis.
  • Prioritize technical workload based on an assignment or established priorities, responds effectively to change in workflow adjusting to work volume.
