One of the charge nurses on a Perinatal unit that accepts a wide variety of patients at a time. This position requires stellar leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to care for many different patient populations at a time. Time management and prioritization skills are vital.

Assisting the RN with all patient care. Obtaining foundational skills of nursing with guidance by the RN. The setting in which i worked ranged from pediatrics to medical surgical.
Performing venipunctures and accu-checks on patients of all ages in all areas of the hospital (ER, ICU, floor).
Working as a charge nurse on a unit that accepts all types of patients (of all ages) requires a number of skills:
Leadership skills- assigning patients, assigning patient rooms, delegating tasks to coworkers
Prioritization: being able to prioritize patient care based on individual patient needs
Communication: communicating with other units to make room assignments, receive admits, and ask for assistance when needed
Team work: assisting coworkers with patient care, offering to complete tasks for coworkers when they are struggling, being willing to compromise
