I am a Physician Assistant with 25 years of experience. The first 23 years were spent in family practice and the last 2, and counting, in women's health. My career began in the sandhills of Atkinson, Nebraska where I practiced every piece of rural healthcare. A year later, the pursuit of living closer to family guided us to the southeast part of the state landing in Beatrice, Nebraska. Still rural enough for my small town heart but a larger medical community to help revive it. I found an amazing private, family practice clinic which I would call home for the next 22 years. I practiced along side four fabulous physicians with full autonomy yet unending teaching, guidance and support. The private practice would be obtained by Beatrice Community Hospital in 2013. Other than ownership nothing changed within our practice. In late 2022 my doctors announced that they would be retiring in 2025. Knowing this day would eventually come, it did not make the news any easier. And then an opportunity arose. A new position within our hospital in women's health was created. In 2023 I began, what I call the second part of my career, at Beatrice Women's Clinic.
I always dreamed of specializing in gynecology. My initial plan, while in PA school, was to practice family medicine for 5 years to get a good foundation and then go into GYN. I just never thought an opportunity would ever present itself and allow me to stay in Beatrice. I am currently pursuing a Certificate of Added Qualifications in OB/GYN and am scheduled to test in September 2025. While doing so I came across the doctorate program at UNMC. This too has been a goal of mine and I decided to go for it!
