JAKE BAILEY

Midvale,UT

Summary

Friendly lead cashier and banquet captain with four years of experience in customer service and venue/lodge maintenance at a Utah ski resort. Has worked in food and beverage, event/venue setup and takedown, and janitorial duties, along with assisting other departments when called upon.

Am independent, self-driven, and task-oriented, but have also learned over the past four years how to enjoy and recognize the benefits of collaboration and team work. Have learned that clear and considerate communication with guests and coworkers leads to the best results for everyone involved.

Am very interested in leaving a hierarchical corporate structure to experience an engaged democratic cooperative that values holistic metrics over a solely profit-centric focus.

Work History

Lead Cashier, Banquet Captain

Solitude Mountain Resort
12.2020 - Current
  • Started as a Hot Dog Cart Operator in the winter and as a Wedding Busser in the summer, and worked my way up from there, learning a variety of Food and Beverage jobs along the way and becoming cross-trained enough to take on supervisory leadership positions.
  • Within Solitude Mountain Resort, have worked at Hot Doggers (hot dog cart), Little Dollie's Waffles, Moonbeam Lodge, Argenta Pub, Last Chance Southwest Grill, Mein Street Noodle Bar, Roundhouse, St. Bernard's Restaurant, Stone Haus Pizzeria & Creamery, The Red Wagon (food truck), and The Thirsty Squirrel (bar).
  • Positions include: busser, server, dishwasher, cashier, food cart operator, setup crew, takedown crew, bar-back, bartender, lead server, lead cashier, and banquet captain.
  • Have often done janitorial work at the resort, such as cleaning restrooms, event venues, lodges, windows, and both indoor and outdoor surfaces where needed.
  • Am a Lead Cashier in the winter seasons and a Banquet Captain in the summer seasons.
  • These most recent jobs have required me to step up my verbal fluency to better communicate with and manage others, while also coordinate with other leaders on how best to execute a service.
  • Have learned how to complete tasks entirely alone as well as with anywhere from one or two other coworkers to a whole team, coordinating with other teams and third party vendors, such as florists and live bands.
  • As a cashier, maintained a balanced cash drawer with diligent attention to detail and accurate counting practices
  • Trained, mentored, and developed new cashiers with positive and encouraging techniques to maximize performance and team contributions.
  • Assisted customers by answering questions and fulfilling requests.
  • Processed both cash and card purchases and returns.
  • Resolved customer complaints empathetically yet professionally, salvaging potentially negative experiences into positive ones
  • Worked extra shifts during busy periods and covered for call-in employees to maintain service levels.
  • Oversaw the cleanliness and organization of the front-end area, creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers.
  • Coordinated breaks for fellow cashiers to ensure continuous coverage at all times while minimizing downtime.
  • During banquets, I ensured timely preparation of function spaces according to client specifications, providing them a hassle-free experience on their special day.
  • Maintained clear communication channels between all departments involved in banquets, contributing to successful event outcomes.
  • Ensured compliance with safety regulations, maintaining a safe working environment for both staff and guests.
  • Oversaw timeliness and quality of food delivery at high-volume events.
  • Promoted team collaboration among banquet staff members through effective leadership practices that fostered a supportive work environment.

Sales Representative

Aptive Environmental
04.2017 - 09.2019
  • Learned how to sell a product, even under the duress of 100% commission
  • Not an ideal way to learn, but this was my introduction to the art of sales and customer service
  • Worked in humid heat as well as in rain many summer days within the states of Indiana, Illinois, and Virginia
  • Learned better how to work alone and accomplish things in ways that worked for me, while keeping within parameters of company standards.
  • Enhanced client satisfaction by addressing concerns promptly and providing exceptional service.
  • Generated additional sales opportunities with upselling and cross-selling techniques.
  • Expanded customer base through cold calling, networking, and relationship building.

Hobbies & Interests

  • I'm pursuing education in copyediting so that I can become a better writer. I'm still figuring out what I would like to write, as well as how I would like to write (i.e. 'finding my voice'), but working in a remote location in the Oregon wilderness may just assist me in this venture.
  • Being as outdoorsy as I am indoorsy, I love hiking, spotting and observing wildlife, kayaking, reading, watching films and TV series, and listening to music.
  • Exploring Oregon has been on my radar for a long time ... I have only been once before, exploring the coastline and some parts of Portland, and found myself really enjoying both. As a result, working at Breitenbush and using it as my base of operations to explore Oregon some more would be a dream come true!
  • While I genuinely have valued and still value my time working at Solitude Mountain Resort, I have become a lot more interested in working in places that value a holistic approach to labor and production. The bottom line is the bottom line in a corporate hierarchy, and it is no different in Alterra Mountain Company, which owns Solitude. There have been great strides made in improving the employee experience, but there is also no official allowance for democratic decision-making granted in contract. I would like to experience democracy in the workplace, and would like to learn how that operates in comparison to my own experiences in top-down hierarchical structures. I'm egalitarian by nature and so it seems like it would be well worth my time to contribute to a workplace that evidently reflects my own values.
