Over the past four years, I have served as an Engineering Laboratory Technician (ELT) in the U.S. Navy, contributing to one of the most critical yet smallest divisions aboard a nuclear-powered submarine. I also qualified as Leading Engineering Laboratory Technician (LELT) and served as the Leading Petty Officer (LPO) of the Reactor Laboratory (RL) division. In these roles, I was responsible for the meticulous maintenance of all radioactive materials and waste, adhering to a zero-tolerance policy for errors both physically and administratively. My work demanded exceptional attention to detail.
As an ELT and LELT, I served as the onboard chemistry expert, ensuring the proper maintenance of supplies and equipment, and performing analyses, sampling, and calculations to regulate reactor and steam plant chemistry in compliance with Naval Reactors' standards. Additionally, I acted as the resident radiological control supervisor, overseeing all radiological or contaminated system maintenance and operations, and enforcing the Navy's strict regulations to maintain an impeccable safety record.
Furthermore, being an ELT required selection from the top 15% of mechanical operators. I consistently maintained all mechanical qualifications, regularly stood watches, and conducted mechanical system-related maintenance as needed.
