Only about 5% of Scouts achieve this rank. The award is recognized by employers, universities, and the military as an indication of a young person's character and leadership abilities. The Eagle Scout service project is a significant part of the rank requirements. It provides an opportunity for the Scout to demonstrate leadership, organization, and service to the community. The project must be approved by the Scout's troop, district, and council, and must benefit a non-profit organization.
