  • Collaborate with administration and healthcare teams to understand clinical operations and patient care strategies.
  • Assist in the development of policies to manage the day to day operations of the hospital.
  • Support data collection efforts for performance metrics to improve operational efficiency and financial viability within the organization.
  • Engage with medical providers (Physicians, Nurse practitioners, Physician assistants) on a daily basis to assist in providing excellent care to our patients.
  • Educate and mentor our providers on a day to day basis.
  • Enhance staff performance with regular feedback, and performance evaluations.
  • Chair committees responsible for the day to day operations of the hospital (Clinical services committee, Pharmacy and therapeutics committee).
  • Assist in the recruitment of providers. (I have done so for the last 30 years)
  • Physician manager of the NMMC inpatient skilled rehab (swing bed) unit. I manage the daily care of the patients as well.
  • Physician manager of the Cardiorespiratory department.
  • Physician manager of outpatient cardiac and pulmonary rehab program.
  • Ongoing member of the Provider Peer Review Committee, The Quality Improvement Committee, and the Joint Conference Committee.
  • Member of the Hospital governing board.
  • I also continue to see patients in the outpatient clinic. This includes preoperative clearance and consultation on particularly difficult cases.
  • I continue to see patients at two local long term care facilities (Forest Hill Manor Nursing home and the Crosswinds assisted living facility).
  • I read all of the EKG's, PFT's, Holter monitors, and event monitors in the hospital.
  • I do all of the Stress tests in the hospital (exercise, exercise sestamibi, and Lexiscan sestamibi). I am in the process of training a fantastic nurse practitioner to also do these.
  • I frequently provide guidance regarding the standard of care for our inpatient and outpatient units.
  • I have continued to do hospitalist shifts until this month. We have just partnered with RPG (Rural Physician Group) to take over our hospitalist service starting October 23.
  • I was the lead instructor and manager of the Quinnipiac third year medical student program (primary care longitudinal third year program for 4 or 5 students for their entire third year at NMMC). This program was stopped two years ago.

In 2006 my practice changed over to a hospital owned practice under the RHC designation. I continued to run the practice as a sole provider.

During this time period, I was also doing all of the inpatient and outpatient care, continued to chair all of the committees, and was working with the administration as noted above under my current job description except for the CMO title.

My outpatient practice closed with the onset of the COVID19 pandemic at which time I managed the majority of the COVID inpatients.
