MANAGEMENT OF THE CARE OF PATIENTS IN THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT/S • Demonstrates the ability to manage complex critically ill patients. ◦ Neurosurgery, thoracic-forgut, gastric bypass, orthopedic. ◦ Liver/kidney/pancreas transplants, hepatobiliary. ◦ Open heart, heart and lung transplants. • Demonstrates the ability to manage advanced therapeutic modalities. ◦ Hemodynamic monitoring. ◦ Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT, CVVHD). ◦ Ventriculostomy, intracranial pressure monitoring. ◦ Ventricular assist devices, balloon pumps.

MANAGEMENT OF THE CARE OF PATIENTS UNDERGOING DIALYSIS TREATMENT • Initiates, performs and terminates all dialysis treatments according to policy and dialysis standards of care. • Reviews all orders and labs prior to initiating treatments. • Informs patient of treatment plan. • Completes all documentation completely and according to policy on the dialysis treatment record. • Performs all pre-treatment safety checks. • Performs appropriate machine maintenance according to dialysis policies and procedures. • Checks charts for dialysis orders prior to arriving on the unit with the dialysis equipment. • Calls physicians for orders early in the shift when orders for dialysis have been placed, but no treatment orders are written. • Completes med/surg dialysis treatments on 3S whenever there are more than 2 med/surg patients scheduled.

• Care for immediate post-op cardiac patients such as CABG, Esophago, Pericardial Drain/Window, TAVR, pre and post AMI with Cardiac angiogram and PCI, Pre-Post pacemaker implantation, Cardiac Arrest patient and other cardiovascular medical-surgical patients
• Care for immediate post op FEM-POP, BI FEM POP and other vascular patients
• Care for patients who needed CRRT, EKOS and IABP
• Care for patients with chest tubes, JP drains, arterial lines, PA lines, and epicardial wires
• Care for critically-ill patients such as Sepsis, Respiratory failures, and medical patients
• Hemodynamic monitoring,inotropes, vasoactive drugs, sedation, narcotics, chemotherapy drugs and epidural drips administration and assessment
• Collaboration with the healthcare team to formulate plans.

• Care for patients with various critical cardiac diagnosis including acute MI, CHF, CAD, cardiomyopathy, heart blocks, external/temporary/permanent pacemaker, arrhythmias, post PCI and post-op cardiac surgery patients
• Cares for patients with various airway management devices including tracheostomy, CPAP, BiPAP, and various modes of ventilations
• Becomes proficient at interpreting and monitoring patients’ heart rhythm and 12-lead ECG
• Assists with bedside invasive procedures including central line insertion, IABP, pericardiocentesis, temporary pacemaker insertions, arterial line insertion, intubation, TEE, PA lines and bronchoscopy
• Responds to all code blue throughout the hospital
• Provides health education to patients and family throughout their stay.

• Critical care assessment of patients admitted to Intensive Care Unit
• Cardiac monitoring and assessment of vital parameter of the patients
• Assisting in various procedures such as Tracheostomy, E.T tube insertion, Dialysis Catheter Insertion, Subclavian, Internal Jugular, Femoral Catheter Insertion, Arterial Line Insertion, CVP catheterization, Chest tube Insertion and other pertinent procedures
• Assessed patients with airway management devices including tracheostomy, CPAP, BiPAP and patient who need/possible intubation and mechanical ventilation
• Immediate Post-Operative assessment of patients from the Operating Room
• Post op immediate ENT surgical patients need continuous monitoring, maintaining drains, penrose, and skin graft viability
• Post op immediate whipple patients and gastric bypass
• Patients with new neo bladder and nehrostomy tubes/drains
• Monitored vital signs especially respiratory status
• Evaluated and recorded patient’s Glasgow Coma Scale, Ventilation and Intake and Output
• Provided tracheostomy and Gastrostomy tube care
• Provided enteral feeding to patients.

• Critically thinking and applying knowledge if noted abnormality or change in the patient’s status
• In addition, recognizing possible complications and interventions; Prioritize care for 5-6 patients
• Care for patients with various uncomplicated cardiac diagnosis including acute MI, CHF, CAD, cardiomyopathy, heart blocks, external/temporary/permanent pacemaker, arrhythmias, post PCI and post-op day 2 cardiac surgery patients
• DKA, new diagnosed Afib, patient with dysrhythmias
• Monitored and assessed of vital parameters such as Level of Consciousness, Respiration, Temperature, Pain and Cardiac Levels
• Monitored hydration status of the patient and provide specific care to the patients
• Empowering patients to their maximum limit with mobility and activities of daily living
• Involving patient’s families in the care plan as much as possible and being available to answer all questions
• Communicating with the other healthcare team members on a daily basis to establish an appropriate care plan for patient
• Work as a team and offer help to other registered nurses when they need it
• Always taking the initiative for new learning opportunities when available.

• Taught and counseling patients pre and post pacemaker insertion
• Taught and counseling patients post AMI
• Taught and counseling patients who are newly diagnosed Afib and CHF
• Organized and taught incoming registered nurses to the organization focus on Cardiorespiratory Unit
• Organized plan of pure lectures, return demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory workshop sessions, seminars, conventions and trainings, case studies and presentation, field assignments, role plays and dramatization and independent or group projects
• Supervised independent or group projects, community duties, return demonstration or hands-on training and in clinical setting duties.
