As a former foster youth, my passion for serving children in the foster care system is deeply rooted in my own lived experience. I entered foster care at the age of 12 and, after leaving the system at 15, faced housing instability, frequent relocations, and attended more than five different high schools. Because of the constant school changes, I was unable to participate in sports during high school. Despite these challenges, I became fully independent at 18, put myself through college, and remained determined to pursue my athletic goals. Through persistence and hard work, I earned opportunities to compete in basketball, cross country, and track at multiple collegiate levels, ultimately finishing NCAA eligibility as a Division I track athlete.
These experiences strengthened my resilience, perseverance, adaptability, and determination to overcome adversity. I am currently completing my Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with the goal of dedicating my career to advocating for foster youth. Having experienced the foster care system firsthand, I understand the importance of being heard, supported, and encouraged. I am committed to using both my education and lived experience to advocate for young people, helping them recognize their potential, overcome obstacles, and build successful futures. My goal is to be the advocate and mentor for foster youth that I wished I had growing up.
