In Hata Lab, I am currently working on a project Ang-II induced hypertension and vascular remodeling in RSK2 KO mice. I am also helping on other projects which aim to find new targets for Pulmonary veno-occlusive disease.
As a postdoc at Somlyo Laboratory I have identified p90 ribosomal S6 kinase (RSK2) as the kinase responsible for contraction and myosin regulatory light chain (RLC20) phosphorylation in myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) null SM cells and blood vessels. This discovery convincingly demonstrates that RSK2 functions as an MLCK in smooth muscle. I have also discovered that RSK2 and its upstream activator, PDK1, are associated with MLCK and bind as a complex to actin forming a signaling hub on the actin filament.
