Core Responsibilities of a Patient Safety Assistant:

• Continuous Observation: Maintaining constant, direct supervision of assigned patients, particularly those at high risk for falls, confusion, or behavioral issues.
• Safety Interventions: Preventing self-harm, pulling at medical tubes/lines, and wandering.
• Reporting Changes: Immediately informing nurses or nursing assistants of any changes in the patient’s condition, behavior, or medical status.
• Basic Assistance: Assisting patients with non-clinical tasks such as positioning, ambulation, and gathering supplies.
• Companionship: Providing emotional support to reduce feelings of isolation and to calm patients.
• Documentation: Documenting observations in the patient's medical record as required.
• Environment Safety: Assisting in keeping the patient's area clean and safe (e.g., removing tripping hazards).

Key Responsibilities:

• Patient Intake & Registration: Greeting patients, gathering personal data, and inputting information into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
• Insurance & Verification: Verifying insurance coverage and eligibility, as well as handling necessary Medicare/payer documentation.
• Administrative Support: Answering phone calls, directing visitors, scheduling appointments, and ensuring all paperwork is compliant.
• Revenue Collection: Collecting co-payments and handling initial patient-pay balances.
• Communication & Safety: Explaining forms (HIPAA, consent) to patients, managing waiting areas, and reporting safety hazards.
• Safety & Confidentiality: Adhering to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
