Project: UAS to UAS Communications Use Cases and Message Protocols

Collaborators: UNT, Unmanned Experts

Duration: August 2021 – Present

  • Conducted an extensive review of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications for UAS, identifying gaps in existing research and AAM services, particularly the absence of an Air-to-Air (A2A) channel model.
  • Developed U2U message protocols addressing regulatory and operational challenges in shared airspace for five standard use-case scenarios.
  • Simulated U2U communication in crossroads, roundabouts, and merging scenarios using AirSim and demonstrated the use cases on AERPAW.
  • Created collision avoidance strategies for structured and unstructured airspace involving cooperative and non-cooperative UAS vehicles.

Project: NSF RINGS Project (Resilient and Intelligent NextG Systems)

Collaborators: UNT, UTD, UNM, Intel, Nokia, Government Agencies

  • Contributed to developing resilient NextG systems for emergency response and disaster management, funded by NSF and DoD.
