This is the part where it gets authentic; I admit that I used a resume builder to assist up until now. But now I get to be myself....
I graduated high-school with grandiose hopes of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. A childhood trauma of a broken femur and a month of skeletal traction fascinated me with the field. I never finished my undergrad at Gettysburg where I was a biochemistry major which I hoped would lead to medical school. I dealt with major depression and just had to leave school.
I worked "jobs" for almost 15 years until my mother, who is a nurse at your hospital, got me to go back to school. She always believed in me and told me I would make a great nurse. I took her advice and signed up for the nursing program at RACC. Once my remaining gen eds were completed, I was in the RN program.
While working full time at the cabinet factory, I put myself through school and eventually accepted a job at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, PA. I began as a Med-Surg / Telemetry nurse and spent 40 months (but who's counting) on the floor providing patient care,
In January of 2020, I requested a transfer to the OR because I felt I needed a change. While I was correct in my decision, my timing could not have been worse. COVID struck 3 months later and my orientation to OR nursing was disjointed at best because of 3 redeployments to the inpatient care units.
Fast forward 5 years and I am still in the OR and love my job. I feel confident in my new role as a circulator and know that I do the right thing for my patients. Many surgeons tell me that they are glad when I am running their room because I am not only knowledgeable and efficient, but caring.
I look forward to moving forward with my career; hopefully with some new faces....and I know there will also be some recognizable ones as well.
Thank you.
