  • Evaluate, locate, collect and preserve evidence for future prosecution, ensuring that the scene is processed properly
  • Photograph major crime and accident scenes, as well provide in house services
  • Identify, collect and preserve physical and biological evidence. Search for and develop latent prints, visible prints and molded prints at crime scenes
  • Processes fingerprints by taking prints, classifying, evaluating, completing, filing, and maintaining both rolled impressions and latent prints (includes operation of Arizona Automated Fingerprint Identification System
  • Process evidence, and do presumptive testing in the Laboratory
  • Prepare written documentation of collected evidence
  • Transportation of evidence
  • Analyze and document results of lab testing, determine conclusion and prepares necessary documents
  • Complete courtroom duties as expert witness
  • Prepare testimony, evidence and diagrams of processed scenes
  • Help to maintain changes in process requirements by keeping up to date of changes in the forensic department, recent judicial orders and training and updating and verifying information
  • Perform related duties by assisting in training of employees in crime scene processing and evidence processing, filling in when employees are absent, training new employees, assisting other agencies, or provide necessary updates to evidentiary requirements or needs
  • Administrator of the body worn camera program. Responsible for training all sworn personnel on body worn equipment, programs, and signal sidearms. Responsible for all inventory, repairs, troubleshoot, and updates to all body worn equipment. Responsible to make sure all body worn camera users are following department policies.
  • Responsible for all body camera, photographs, and audio redactions, and working with the city attorneys to make sure we are compliant with state laws.
  • Administrator of the Drone Program for Avondale Police Department. Responsible for training all new pilots on all drones. Making sure pilots, and observers stay complaint with FAA regulations and Avondale Police Department Policies. Responsible for the maintenance of all hardware, software, and equipment. Required to maintain 107 FAA pilot license
  • Responsible for ensuring the Identification Technician section is up to date on current technology and equipment. Help determine equipment needs by researching, evaluating, and preparing cost proposals for budget recommendations
  • Responsible for ensuring proper inventory of necessary supplies Including PPE's for laboratory and crimes scenes
  • Responsible for working with Phoenix Police Department NIBIN Unit to help with the collection, entry, and analysis of ballistics from Avondale Police Department’s evidence. Coordinate with NIBIN for use of ballistic imaging technology system. Assist NIBIN unit/Avondale Police Department with any further action pertaining to the ballistics testing
  • Responsible for demonstrating to community groups (schools, girl scouts, GAIN, etc…) aspects of crime prevention, fingerprint taking, latent fingerprint lifting, fingerprint comparisons, and mock crime scenes
  • Assist in the selection, training and supervision of VCST (Volunteer Crime Scene Technicians) in the Avondale Police Department
  • Work with VCST and assist in their classroom, practical’s and field training, facilitate mock crime scenes for VCST training. Follow up and give proper feedback and guidance. Help develop training materials for the VCST program. Assist Avondale Police Department in any capacity needed
