Feinstein Teacher Award

The Feinstein Teachers Award comes from The Alan Shawn Feinstein  Foundation. I received the award for a project I did with 4th grade students at Oliphant Elementary School entitled "Green Ballons for Mathew". Myself, a fourth grade classroom teacher and her class studied about death and dying through a young boys battle with Leukemia. The students also read from books by Dr. Bernie Siegal about using the arts to help heal cancer patients.

During a semester we wrote a play about Mathew's journey through treatments. We then decided to write our own songs to turn it into a musical.

The students performed this musical for the school and parents.

We were happy to be recognized by the Feinstein Foundation for our ongoing commitment to community service. This project highlights the hard work of our school team.
