Proactive problem-solver with approachable attitude, insightful critical thinking abilities, and meticulous eye for detail. After 18 years of experience in scientific and biomedical writing/editing, I am eager to join a big-hearted team working toward the kinder and more beautiful world that is surely on its way (yes I am an optimist!). I have gained effective leadership, collaboration and customer service skills through a variety of work and volunteer roles and I look forward to serving my local community as well as the larger human community in my next role.
I provide customer and patient care in the clinic as well as front desk and administrative duties at this small non-profit: scheduling, charting, billing, inventory, and communications with providers and affiliates. I also trained new employees, led monthly staff meetings, and edited parts of the website and quarterly newsletters.
This job showed me how much I enjoy serving the public in practical ways, that I am naturally oriented toward excellent customer service, and how satisfying it can be to keep displays orderly and attractive.
The most humbling and illuminating role I've ever had.
After working as Senior Copyeditor for the journal Nature Neuroscience for 3 years, I started my own editing business, mainly serving scientists whose first language is not English. Over the years I have also copyedited for the Simons Foundation, Continuo Foundation, and various independent book projects.
I taught the Human Biology course at Touchstone Healing Arts in Burlington, VT 2010-2012 (the school is now closed). I was also an academic tutor for middle and high-school students, mainly in math, science, writing and French.
I worked part-time at this awesome farm, tending crops and harvesting/washing on CSA pickup days.
