Animated Trainer

Universal Studios Hollywood
Universal City, CA
06.2017 - Current

I became a Animated Trainer in 2017' . In that role I was fortunate enough to be asked to head the first implementation of the highly restrictive and specific physical characteristics ,on stage and backstage, of the IP of Sanrio's Hello Kitty. In that role, I made sure my performers were prepared to take on a character that they as a team would create together and make one Kitty that they all share the same characteristics as their fellow performers. This was not a time to shine as an individual but as a group of talented people that would give Kitty a life and vibarance that the guest would see a consistency of physical vocabulary they would always recognize and imitate when the see her. A familiarity they could always count on like and old friend. Their hard work to work together and not apart but to shine together as one team was my idea that would be their

strength for the character Hello Kitty. I let my people know that later in other characters they would shine individually but right now I needed them to be a team and make this character one so that I could never see who specifically was in the costume. All I see is Kitty. That's all I wanted to see. Her movements are so specific and precise that I got to use my Dance Captain background to this task. It was a perfect fit. When the Sanrio representatives came to see her they asked if the trainer was from Japan. I felt my mission was accomplished. High praise indeed.

JPP Coordinator 19' June 2019' to current

Universal Studios Hollywood

I was fortunate enough to be apart of the Entertainment Production Coordinator pool for the 2019' season. I really felt so much growth from this amazing experience. I got to work with so many different people from different departments that I would not have probably ever even met otherwise. Getting to see how other workers from all over the part work together to make something wonderful happen for our guests was really a huge help towards my growth experience. My coordinator assignments were varied and fantastic. I got to work with auditions, help coordinate performers for appearances on and off property. Help with our Eve event for the new year, I got to help with the show vehicles on our lot to learn how to place them for events. The one huge assignment I really felt very grateful and fortunate to get was P-477wd. I got a very rare experience to work with our Prop Team and the installation of many props into the exterior façade of one of our new upcoming attractions. This took about almost 7 weeks and also gave me experience working with our 5192 drivers and labors for the receiving and removing of crates from the EPC. I got to help with the taking of Photos for documentation purposes on scaffolding and be in a Construction environment which involved safety training. The opportunities I received from this program were tremendous.

Accomplishments

In 2011, I traveled to the United Arab Emirates in Adu Dhabi through the company Thinkwell to start up their very first body suit character program in that region of the middle east for the new theme park Ferrari world. There, I had to train a performer, Who's never done this kind of work before, on backstage and onstage performance. I wrote the first Training manual for how to care for the costume, how to keep the character safe for the handler, how to keep your body in good condition in the costume through proper exercises, how to get yourself out of bad situations with aggressive guests, how to look for aggressive guests to avoid an unsafe moment, how to animate and perform in the costume, how to properly use your sight lines, where to keep your hands in pictures etc. I'm very proud that today that program I started has grown to more characters than just the one character I initiated along with training the "handler/character escort, on how to take care of the guest and performer and manage aggressive guests while maintaining Character integrity and superior guest service.

GMCLA YOUTH OUTREACH

I am a member of GMCLA and have been an active member since 15'. Through this wonderful organization we have an outreach program called the Alive Music Project (AMP) which has reached over 50,000 middle and High school students in the Los Angeles area with a message of acceptance and hope through music.  AMP works closely with school Gay Straight Alliances and incorporates the essential tools of GLSEN(Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) to improve learning environments. Our AMPS bring a message of anti-bullying and acceptance through GMCLA members sharing stories, music, and experiences, and foster a safe space. Students and selected members of GMCLA come together for one  or more assembly presentations. These include personal stories coupled with musical performances and an anonymous Q & A.  GMCLA also has an outreach program where we go to visit incarcerated youth. Through music, stories, Q&A and performing together we feel this helps to hopefully set these kids on the right path to a brighter future and help to end  bullying in our juvenile systems.

SENIOR CITIZENS OUTREACH

Throughout the year, I'm very fortunate and grateful to spend time at local senior citizens nursing homes. Our elderly deserve our respect and compassion and I give back by simply making them laugh and smile by portraying the Iconic little tramp of the silver screen Charlie Chaplin.  Traditionally with some fellow performers who also come as Classic Hollywood characters, through music, song, dance and many many hugs, we bring warmth and love to people who don't usually get to be entertained with live performers with quality time after to give them a chance to tell their stories and have someone there to really hear and remind them they are cherished , respected and loved. Recently I got to visit the Motion Picture & Television County House and Hospital in Woodland Hills. This is something I wish everyone could experience. It is so rewarding to give back to our elderly .  When I leave having performed and spent this special time with these lovely folks,  I'm filled with pure Joy.

Through Universal I have been fortunate enough to work with Children from LA Children's Hospital, from St. Judes Hospital and the Make a Wish foundation also Special Needs Children and Adults who have visited the park and are the true grounding and joy of my job and Career at USH.
