  • Appointed and sworn in as the Laurel/Whitley County Emergency Management Director on September 23, 2024. Prior to that, I was appointed and sworn in as the Whitley County Emergency Management Director on December 15, 2023. On July 31, 2023 I retired as an area manager with the Division of Emergency Management and was employed from November 2002 to August 2023. Responsible for coordination and technical assistance to county officials and emergency personnel in the preparation and implementation of local emergency plans in Bell, Clay, Estill, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Lee, Madison, Owsley, Powell and Whitley Counties. Also coordinating and managing response activities at the scene of a disaster or emergency including: initiation and coordination of evacuations and sheltering, lost or missing persons, distribution of food and medical supplies, supervision of Disaster Assistance Centers and conducting media briefings.

  • In 2003 and 2004, while working for KYEM, I deployed several times to the State of Florida, due to hurricanes, to work in the Florida Emergency Operations Center, where I worked in the logistics section with other emergency management personnel from across the United States. These deployments typically lasted for two (2) week periods. In 2016, I was deployed as team leader for a nine (9) person incident management team, which overseen distribution sites in South Carolina during Hurricane Matthew. In 2019, I deployed to Kansas for flooding and served as a liaison between the local EOC and the state EOC in Topeka. In December 2021, I was deployed to Western KY for the historic tornados, this was a two (2) week deployment. In July 2022, I was deployed to Eastern KY for the historic flooding incident. I was deployed from July to middle of September for flooding and then from middle of September to February 2023, I was reassigned to the last two (2) remaining missing persons from the flooding. There is currently one (1) person still missing from that flooding.

  • I have worked a variety of jobs before working with state and local governments. I had seven (7) years experience in retail grocery sales from carry out to store manager in Williamsburg. Prior to November 2002, I was manager of a Lovejoy Medical durable medical equipment repair center in Corbin, KY. I was also a part time emergency medical technician with Mountain Lifeline Ambulance Service in Whitley County and a 12-year member of the Williamsburg Rescue Squad, where I was Captain for two (2) years. I currently have 38 years of search and rescue experience and currently hold the Master Exercise Practitioner designation.
