Experience
UCR Chicano Link Peer Mentor Program, Fall 2021
Mentored incoming freshman and transfer students as they navigated their first year at the University of California Riverside.
My role as a mentor consisted of weekly meetings with my mentees, providing academic and personal resources, and supporting mentees with their academic success.
This role made me accountable for the experience my mentees experienced their first year of college and their readiness for the following quarter.
I encouraged students to utilize study groups, quarterly counselor meetings, and the career center to help students build their resumes and to prepare for job interviews. Aside from tools to aid their academic success, I also suggested UCR's various resources such as The Wellness Center for therapy and free hygiene products and The UCR Pantry for free food and produce to balance their physical and mental health as well.
Child Growth & Development, Fall 2018
Requirement: proof of vaccination and volunteer hours at the Southwest Community College Daycare.
Child Growth and Development is a course dedicated to growth and development in the womb, infant stages, toddlers, children and teenagers.
My observations focused on how the children developed social skills through their interactions with one another. I studied the children's' communication skills; I listened to the vocabulary they used and noted how they expressed themselves in different settings.
