I served a few roles in this internship. I worked on graphic designing posters for the centers yearlong fishing challenge. I worked on fish profiles creating an entire profile for roughly 30 fish species found in the Port Royal Sound. I also published these profiles on their website. I was able to attend local meetings and learn the process they go through to share their research with local businesses who could benefit from it. I also worked in the water process lab during days that samples were collected. I filtered about 18 sites every 2 weeks looking for TSS and Chlorophyll. I was responsible for labeling each chlorophyll tube and getting a pre weight of the TSS filters. The information collected on sample sites also has to be uploaded to an overall data base which I was able to learn how to do that.

them finding things such as mussels and acorn barnacles. We sorted through the data that was collected and uploaded all the proper documents to the file for the Smithsonian to use our data.
Helped separate tubes of water that had been collected up and down the southern coast from oyster beds. Others in the lab had been working on this project which included collecting water and deciphering DNA from the water for the past few months. My job was to separate the vials with fish DNA markers from the other vials in order to mix them so the sample will be larger and easier to send off. During this research project I also learned how to run PCR gels.
