  • As a Community Health Worker I contact patients who have visited the emergency department at ECU Health Edgecombe in the last 72 hours
  • I work with those patients to get them in with the Health Assist program
  • This program is for patients who are uninsured who do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare
  • This program assists with Primary Care as well as Specialty Care
  • I also work with our LCSW to get the patient in other programs to provide the care they need.

  • I have been with Nash County EMS for 17 years
  • I started out as an EMT-Intermediate
  • I went to Paramedic school and obtained my Paramedic certification in 2007
  • I then became a Station Officer
  • I was promoted to Community Paramedic in 2018
  • I am currently serving as the Community Paramedic Program Coordinator since 4/10/23
  • My current duties are to attend to patients that call the Community Paramedic phone and assist them
  • I also follow up with referrals from within our organization and outside organizations
  • I use resource management to assist patients
  • I respond to all high acuity calls in our district
  • I decontaminate ambulances and assist crews with doffing PPE after Covid calls
  • I assist crews with any equipment or medication needs on nights and weekends
  • I also perform QM on calls
  • I also draw labs on a few patients several times a month
  • I also work with patients suffering from addiction to get them the resources needed to fight addiction
  • I currently supervise 2 employees
  • I oversee the entire Community Paramedic Program
  • I work with other entities within our service area to bridge the gaps in the healthcare system
  • I also assist the local health department with vaccines for people that are home bound.

Activities

I performed several volunteer activities while in the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society at Nash Community College. One of my favorite activities was taking gifts to patients at a retirement center at Christmas. I am also part of a local healthcare networking group. I currently serve as the Secretary of The North Carolina Community Paramedic/MIH Coalition. I am a member of the CARES organization.
