Took time away from professional career to raise my three young children after birth of my twins in May 2020. Managed household so my spouse could focus on growing and managing his business. This time off to focus on my family has been a huge blessing and has allowed me to have time for self reflection to discern what my true interests and passions are before returning to the workforce with renewed enthusiasm.
Employed in a hospital based ambulatory clinic caring for routine antenatal and high risk antenatal patients with a wide variety of health conditions and fetal and obstetric complications. Position assumed a variety of duties including managing care of clinic patients and assisting with management of high risk OB patients on the hospital service. Responsibilities included obtaining comprehensive medical and obstetric histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting labs/diagnostic testing, developing a treatment plan in conjunction with perinatologist, and consulting pertinent specialists. First surgical assist for a variety of obstetric procedures and routine attendance of vaginal deliveries with perinatologist. Provided routine gynecologic and obstetric care including evaluation and management of sexual health and STIs/pap testing, preconception counseling, antenatal and postnatal care. Management of maternal chronic health conditions and pregnancy related complications including but not limited to gestational and preexisting diabetes, hypertension, preterm labor, cervical incompetence, and multiple gestation pregnancies. During this position I also assisted with precepting/orienting two new NPs to Maternal Fetal Medicine.
Provided direct care for patients of all ages in a busy level II trauma center under the direction of an emergency medicine physician or NP/PA. Collaborated with physicians to quickly assess patients and deliver appropriate treatment while monitoring for deteriorating conditions. Communicated openly with all healthcare staff to optimize patient care. Collaborated and assisted with trauma and emergency interventions including gunshot wounds, serious head injuries, thoracic traumas, motor vehicle accidents, and a variety of life threatening acute and chronic medical conditions. In this position I served as a preceptor to new RNs entering the ER. I also served on the hiring committee for new applicant RNs.
Provided direct care to critically ill neonates and their families under the direction of a neonatologist or NNP. Communicated directly with NNPs and neonatologist regarding patient condition and plan of care. Attended deliveries and participated in initial resuscitation of infants during high risk deliveries with an NNP.
