● Monitor patients with dialysis catheters and assist with the placement of a fistula or graft access.
● Update and monitor GFR ( glomerular filtration rate)
● Performs the basic duties, task and responsibility of a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician.
● Excellent understanding of the renal function and the consequences of renal failure.
● Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the treatment modalities available to end stage renal disease patients.
● Utilizes an excellent team approach when assessing patient needs and developing a plan of care by conferring with patient, family nurse, technicians physicians, social worker, and dietician.
● Excellent understanding and performs the hemodialysis procedure according to the unit's policy procedures.
● Provides excellent documentation on treatment sheets and medical records, both manual and electronic.
● Excellent understanding of all infection control procedures and understands the consequences associated with failing to follow those procedures:
● Wears appropriate personal protective gear (PPE).
● Follow all clean/dirty procedures in order to eliminate
cross-contamination.
● Demonstrates an understanding and performs cannulation using aseptic technique for needle insertion and all other required procedures.
● Disinfects machines, station area, and chairs after each patient treatment.
● Performs excellent patient data collection and documentation including blood
● pressure, pulse, temperature, ankle swelling, weight, respiration, ect.
● Immediate response to emergencies and alarms. Excellent knowledge of alarms.
● Demonstrate willingness to help patients by acknowledging and responding to their needs promptly and appropriately.
● Assumes educator role to hemodialysis patients and reinforce their understandings of the disease and its treatment.
● Prepares, records, and files laboratory reports as directed.
● Obtains blood samples and culture specimens.
● Administer oxygen as necessary by cannula or mask under direction and supervision of a RN
● Administer normal saline, heparin, and lidocaine.
● Participates in CPR as needed and as directed by the Charge Nurse.
● Performs other duties as assigned.
