I am saving up to get my Funeral Science A.S. degree through Florida State College. I studied mortuary science back in 2011 and was instantly drawn to the profession. I had an internship lined up with my professor's funeral home after I finished my degree. Unfortunately, I had a medical event that left me disabled. After I recovered, I started a family and have been a stay home parent ever since. Two years ago, I started taking classes again, just to see if I could finish my A.A. degree, and I graduated this past December! Now that I know what I can accomplish, I would love to get my foot in the door with a reputable funeral home while I go through school.
I want to become a funeral director because I want to give closure to those who have lost a loved one. I planned my husband's grandma's funeral after my mother-in-law was too overcome with grief to continue. Helping her make a tribute to her mother was one of the best feelings I have had. I grew closer to my mother-in-law as we shared our sadness, our memories, and said our goodbyes. I want to leave others with the peace I found after the service was over.
