Duties and responsibilities as a Corrections Officer perform work involving the care and custody of inmates as well as immigrants.
Housed immigrants under Operation Lone Star initiated by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in June 2021.
Work involves the direct supervision of inmate work groups in their assigned duties such as kitchen, farm shop, school, sidewalk crew, kennel workers etc.
Conduct counts at 6:30 am, 9:30 am and at 2:00 pm.
Also Including security rounds every 30 minutes to prevent escapes and to maintain discipline in conformance with strict rules.
Work under minimal supervision, being able to take initiative and use independent judgment.
Assumed responsibility for care of inmates and immigrants in distress, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Executed critical decisions under pressure, successfully intervening to save an inmate's life during suicide attempts.
As well as being capable of stopping a prison fight.
Able to de-escalate situations using communication skills.
Trained to use force on inmates in the event that they refuse to obey orders or other situations.
I have participated in five man teams before which is a team of five officers in black armored suits that actually use force to restrain and gain compliance of an inmate.
Conducted thorough searches for contraband, including drugs and weapons, in various inmate areas.
Trained to conduct proper 'strip' and "pat" searches.
Restraining and securing inmates, and transferring and transporting inmates by riding in state vehicles to different units around Texas.
Adapted schedule to accommodate overtime and irregular hours.
