  • I began working in telephone triage in 2017, triaging symptom calls for Veterans in the Saginaw area and all CBOC’s in northern Michigan
  • In 2022, the triage department joined the VISN 10 Clinical Contact Center of Health Connect and now includes triaging calls for all of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and VISN 23 on weekends and holidays
  • I gather information from each Veteran caller regarding their symptoms and make a recommendation for the appropriate level of care based on the Veterans needs and acuity
  • I follow the unit SOP’s and use the evidence based clinical decision tool TXCC along with my past nursing experience and critical thinking skills to help guide my decisions
  • I work independently, but do collaborate with other triage nurses when needed, while making safety a priority when making a recommendation
  • I practice first call resolution; I am HIPAA compliant with each caller and I act as a liaison for Veterans and their families to ensure their symptoms are addressed appropriately and encourage each Veteran to make decisions their own care
