I have worked in 3 different settings at CCLS: The first I worked with 2 men with the diagnoses of Autism. My responsibilities: included following their needs based plan of ADL's, medication management, promoting a safe living environment, communication through sign language or communication board, activities like memory games, playing music to calm a resident when he was getting agitated, behavior management. My second house was with 3 young women with mostly Mental health diagnosis. My role in this house was more supervision of cooking and cleaning, medication administration, and playing games and doing activities., My 3rd assignment is community support: taking clients places such as grocery shopping, delivering meals, shopping and cooking with a gentleman on a special diet. All of these placements I documented on the clients needs based plans.
I started out in the Memory Care Unit my duties there were: monitoring residents for health and safety concerns, medication administration, assisted clients with incontinence, bathing, serving meals, and documentation. Then they closed the Memory Care and Caledonia Care offered a class on sight to get more CNA's, which I took since my license had expired. Then I worked as a CNA doing most of the same skills plus things like Hoyers. Then they advertised that they needed more TMA's, so they paid for me to go to Rochester to take the TMA class. Then I worked as a TMA and CNA: Administering oral, topical, ocular, and the other medication routes that Minnesota Allowed for a TMA. I also did computer documentation, helping with meals, toileting needs, and helping to get residents ready for bed.
This was a company with 3 group homes at the time I worked there. My duties at the house were resident care such as cooking, taking care of a client in a wheel chair, taking clients on walks, bathing, and I was also for a while the Activity Coordinator. For being the Coordinator, I would take whoever was interested that week to places in the community such as Karaoke, the movies, the Drop-in Center (for people with Mental Illness), there they might play cards, or Bingo, or Pool, or attend a party.
