I currently work as the Chief Pharmacy technician within the Oncology Pharmacy department at Tunbridge Wells hospital, I believe the skills I have gained over the last five years would be transferable into many aspects of this role, I have had the insight of the pharmacy and chemotherapy side which could be valuable within this role.
I am a member of the GPHC professional body as a registered Pharmacy technician and with this my CPD portfolio is updated regularly, I am a safe space champion and have completed the Edward Jenner leadership programme and looking to do the Prince2 foundation course via distance learning.

Within my current role I have to be a problem solver, there are issues that arise daily in which I need to stay calm, focused and find a solution, generally the problems could impact whether a patient does or does not receive their chemotherapy treatment, usually due to an uncontrolled external factor.
I am good at being able to interpret all information given, being accountable and being able to try and improve the service that we give to our patients and my staff, it is about looking at the service we provide and being able to get the best outcomes.

When I started this role nearly five years ago I wanted to push for our assistants bandings to be looked at via Agenda for Change, I worked closely with the Chief Pharmacist, spent time talking with the directorate, gathering research and evidence to put a case together to prove that the bandings were incorrect for our staff, the end of last year this was finally reviewed and changed pushing our band 2 assistants up to band 3's, this was amazing, they were completely deserved of this change and I am so proud to have been part of this and not stopped when told it couldn't happen.

I deal with all the statistically information that happens within my technical team and create reports for the senior teams, showing the yearly figures of patient numbers, treatments, dose changes, new patients and much more, this is then used to look at capacity planning for my team and the aseptic unit, alongside this I look at the financial side of our High Cost drugs and look meticulously at the costs of outsourcing chemotherapy to see how we can be more effective and save money, highlight issues and areas that we could improve.
I enjoy analysing data and breaking things down to find better ways to work and streamlining current processes.
I have recently put together a Quality Improvement Proposal for the Haematology inpatient ward at Maidstone hospital, this will be a huge improvement to ensuring the patients get their treatment consistently without treatments being missed or delayed, it will also impact positively on the Chemotherapy scheduling team whom have to ensure they correctly schedule these patients. I wanted to look at a solution for the problem, looking at the needs of our inpatient's and to support the scheduling team.

Coming up three years ago the aseptic service moved from Maidstone hospital over to Tunbridge wells hospital, this was a huge project in which I lead on for the technical team, we moved to a new manufacturing unit, all of our equipment, files, computers, staff cancer treatments had to continue, to not shut our service for even one day, this took strict and detailed planning.
Using the expertise of my team we collectively made a thorough plan to ensure it worked, this was a great chance to test my skills at project management.
I am part of the internal error team, we investigate errors that have been made within the previous month, we look at trends and see what can be done to reduce the error rate. We have reporting system that allows us to see the severity and at what point the error occurred, when it was highlighted and how dangerous it could have been, this in turn can then produce information and data about any areas within the teams that need addressing, whether that is re-training or looking at performance management if it is a continual problem.

I currently write and review the standard operating procedures within my area ensuring that they are up to date, relevant and GMP compliant, the team also have to complete validations and competencies in which I review yearly.
I have managed a team of staff for the last five years, and had the opportunity to recruit and train new staff, do multiple appraisals, probationary meetings, performance management meetings and support them through different training courses.

My interpersonal skills are very good, I have had the opportunity to work with many different professionals within the hospital and other careers that I have been involved in. I currently work with many stakeholders in the cancer directorate, pharmacy, consultant and nursing teams.

I am very organised, my time management is good and I can prioritise different parts of work when needed, I like to have a focus and goals, be given projects to be completed in a specific timeframe.
My IT skills are good, I use databases, spreadsheets, ordering systems and build chemotherapy regimens into the electronic prescribing system ARIA. I have had experience in audits, clinical trials, report writing and delivering presentations.
I have presented at the national LGBT Health Summit to talk about the safe spaces that I had created for LGBT young people across Kent and successfully organised, managed and delivered Youth Summit's for over 100 young people across Kent and London for three consecutive years when I was an outreach Youth & Community worker for the London Charity Metro.

My communication skills are good, I communicate with a variety of professionals and external agencies daily. I am assertive when it comes to supporting others, I will do my utmost to ensure they receive the best, I can handle pressure, due to the demand on my current role within cancer care and the complexity of the workload.
I am currently working closely with the Continuous Improvement Business Partners to look at recruitment and retention issues within pharmacy and trying to bring about change as we have a higher percentage of turnover than other areas.

Becoming a manager was a huge learning curve and took a while to adjust due to moving up the bandings very quickly after qualifying, one in which I have embraced and enjoyed, hopefully my team have gained knowledge and have felt supported.
When I completed the band 6 leadership course it gave me a huge confidence boost, it highlighted that I am actually good at looking after my team and the wider team, from this I have wanted to progress on to helping others.
This role would be an exciting opportunity and I believe I would be a great member of the team. I have established a strong team where I currently am and proud of this, I am seeking a new challenge and ways to continue my professional development.

Throughout my time as a manager I have always pushed my team and ensured they get every opportunity they can, I have come to realise recently that I need a role in which I can help my colleagues, improve things for them, help them to enjoy their jobs and maximise what they do, which in turn benefits them and our patients.
