The Maritime Aquarium

- Main basic job was to provide education to guests through use of carts that would be set up in different parts of the aquarium day by day. On the carts would be assorted objects pertaining to the exhibit where they were; such as models of, or actual, animal skulls or bones, models of organisms and ecosystems, activity sheets, and materials relating to marine debris and conversation. We used these materials to engage guests and inform them about the causes the aquarium aims to contribute to, along with any other questions the guests happen to have.
- The position is split into 4 tiers, each tier having hour requirements for advancement. The difference between tiers 1 and 2 is nominal, changes only start at tier 3.
- At tier 3, which I started june 2022, volunteers take on responsibilities such as opening and closing the assorted touch tanks and instructing guests on how to touch the animlals and collecting tickets for stingray feedings.
- At tier 4, which I started in march 2023, volunteers take on the role of supervising other volunteers. This entails taking on the pre shift briefing, giving break times, and floating around the carts and giving feedback. On occasion, tier 4 volunteers will set up shifts entirely on their own, in a supervisor's absence; deciding which carts to put out, who to put on which cart, and how breaks are allocated.
