Cooling tower water transport

  • design system to transport water from heat exchanger to cooling tower
  • selected a piping material able to resist heating while also keeping friction to minimum
  • calculating the system head and selecting a pump to fit the performance curve for the volumetric flow range specified

Preliminary design of diesel engine for generator

  • design an air-cooled diesel engine to power a generator rated at 45kW at 60 Hz
  • used thermodynamic analysis to size the engine and calculate the pressures and heat transfer within the motor
  • select material used for the sized engine and analyze the pressure and thermal stresses to determine the liner thickness
  • design cooling fins so that power derating is no more than 5% for every 10 degrees fahrenheit above 85
