I first started to rescue and home stray cats my first year in Beijing. There were many stray cats at the local Buddhist temple i would visit. I would visit everyday and although the cats were fed by the monks and volunteers, I would still feed them wet food. The first cat I rescued was a tuxedo cat that I first named after the temple, Guang Hua. I latter changed his name to Blue. After all the vet visits, I feel in love with Blue and could not home him so, I brought him back with me to the U.S. Blue was the sweetest boy. He passed away in my arms after going through an illness in where his body stopped absorbing nutrients. It was hard on him and devastated me. I have his ashes and when my time comes, I will have his ashes spread with mine. I kept rescuing cats every season I was back in Beijing and everywhere I have been since. My last rescue cat from Beijing, Jack, passed away almost two years ago, also in my arms. Jack had cancer and was in such pain. I held him in my arms as the vet ended his suffering while breaking my heart all over again. I also have Jack's ashes and his will be joining Blue's and mine, someday.
