  • Respond to emergencies, which include wildland fires, structure fires, vehicle fires, traffic collisions, technical rescue, search and rescue, medical aids, natural disasters, and hazardous materials emergencies.
  • In addition to responding to emergencies, station life includes maintaining fire apparatus to be in a state of readiness, training with the crew for cohesion and also training newer crew members, physical fitness, meal preparation, and station maintenance
  • I had worked 13 seasons in the Tulare Unit as an engine crew member at the firefighter level.
  • I am also qualified as retardant crew member and a fixed wing parking tender at the Porterville Air Attack Base. As an airbase crew member/firefighter we were tasked with the responsibilities of loading state or federal Aircraft with retardant, parking or marshaling aircraft on or off the ramp, fire guarding for refueling aircraft, fire suppression and or crash rescue, logging all aircraft information to Aviation Information Mangement Systems (AIMS) for all flight records, including start up times, incident information, retardant used, fuel, crew reports for the pilots, and daily morning briefings. Other duties included state mess (cooking), maintenance of the facility, and basic maintenance of state or federal aircraft.
  • I had worked 4 seasons at the airbase.
  • I now currently am assigned to the Service Center for logistical support at Visalia headquarters. The Service Center provides logistical support for operational fire needs and non-emergent support to the administrative staff members. I assist the Forestry Logistics Officer with fire-line meals, hydration, station supplies, fire equipment, personal protective equipment for all uniformed personnel within the department, while also providing the administrative staff with stationary supplies and or mail.
