Summary

After 18 years as an in-dealership Harley-Davidson mechanic, I decided I wanted more.

I asked my GM to move me to a Service Advisor position. Even though I took a sizable pay cut, I knew I needed to make the move to set in motion my future goals. I wanted to learn every aspect of how the Service Department works. Eventually, my future goals will include learning every aspect of the Parts Department and Fixed Ops as a whole.

I held the position of Service Advisor for two complete 'Riding Seasons' in the Midwest. After which, I moved up to Service Shop Foreman and Dispatcher (early August 2024).

I assist the Service Manager in overseeing a total of 7 to 12 service department personnel. Including flat-rate and hourly techs, and porters.

I currently hold this position. I maintain my H-D Master Tech Recognition Level. I perform all dyno tuning, and I am currently in the process of training two other techs in the basics of dyno tuning.

I have performed numerous 'Showroom Floor' P&A builds, and helped conduct Customer Knowledge Seminars on S.E. Engine build options, and other P&A.

  • Lead flat-rate and hourly technicians in a high-volume, high-pace service department, ensuring all department parts and labor goals are met.
  • Conduct daily huddles with techs and service advisors. Weekly huddles to include Parts Department personnel.
  • Assist with Service, Parts department seminars, and showroom floor builds.
  • Dispatch ROs, and delegate assignments.
  • Write all internal ROs, and some customer ROs, as needed to help service advisors.
  • Call in or file warranty claims with HDMC or ESP warranty companies, as needed.
  • Work with the Service Manager to help implement procedures and tasks to help ensure that department goals are met.
  • Keep technicians up to date on training to maintain their Technician Recognition Levels.
  • Perform dyno tuning using Screaming Eagle and PowerVision tuning software.
