From the age of 5 to 17 my parents were foster parents through UMFS in richmond. This line of work is something that always interested me. While being a part of UMFS I spent a lot of time during support group nights helping in the "baby room", as a 10 year old. When I was 17, my parents adopted my little brother through UMFS. Social work and the foster system as a whole has and always will have a special place in my heart because of that. Growing up with my parents doing this changed my perspective and the way my brain worked from an early age. From a young age, looking at it now, I was able to form a more mature way of thinking, become more compassionate, and really have a heart for the children and families in these situations.
