Joseph Delany

Through my diverse past, I have developed a versatile set of skills and a broad base of knowledge across multiple domains, from language proficiency and cultural studies to leadership in challenging environments, situation, and with challenging clients. Through these experiences and with my problem-solving mindset and a commitment to continuous learning, I have developed tools that can be molded to meet any task. My varied experiences have equipped me to approach new challenges with resilience, adaptability, and a strategic perspective, making me a valuable asset in any research or professional setting.

Volunteering:

• Yad b'Yad and The Center for Small Town Jewish Life, Youth Mentor (September 2024 - Present) Working with English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) middle/high school students in Waterville through a 1v1 mentoring and group mentoring.
• Farmhand, Lopez Farm (December 2021, June- August 2023): I spent a transformative month living with a Costa Rican family and volunteering on a farm in the jungle, fully immersing myself in the Spanish language and culture. This experience, where I engaged in various farm tasks such as feeding animals, clearing pastures, and transporting sugarcane, allowed me to refine my Spanish proficiency through hands-on, immersive learning. Returning in the summer of 2023, I furthered my connection with the Lopez family by assisting in the construction of a community center, taking on responsibilities from measuring land and laying the foundation to building walls and installing the roof. These experiences taught me the importance of managing time effectively to meet project deadlines in a setting without day-to-day structure, deepening my cultural understanding and enhancing my cross-cultural communication abilities.
