As a Utility Technician for the city of Corpus Christi Tx our main purpose is to repair any types of leaks that pop up around the city. We also install brand new water taps that involve digging with the excavator that range from a 17g all the way up tp a 410 john deer backhoe. Leaks are reported by the customer or first responders and we are notified to respond to the address of the leak. Depending on the priority of the leaks that range from small leaks to full blown washouts. We then go on our G.I.S maps to see how big the size of the main line is and where the valves are located .Foremen then calls 811 for line locates to give the opprtunity for our operator to dig. Once dug up we make our repairs by either putting a clamp on the main line or cutting a pice out to install the new pipe into the line.Once the repair is done we have the operator backfill where the hole was at depending on how deep the main line is. Small hand tools are used for cleaning the pipe and ratchets to tighten the fittings that we use to hold the new pipe.At times we use the bullet aka the torpedo incase for a service line leaking in the street where we replace the service line with polly and we boar from one side of the street to where the meter is at to replace it with the cutoff valve that is attached to the meter.We also repair valves that have also been leaking or that have blown out ,The hydrants that leak are also repaired by us.
