Responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the city's wastewater collection system. This includes managing a team of workers, ensuring system integrity, and implementing strategies to prevent issues such as blockages and overflows.

• Supervision and Leadership: Manage and lead a team of utility workers, providing direction and oversight to ensure efficient and effective operations.
• System Maintenance and Repair: Oversee the maintenance and repair of the city's wastewater collection infrastructure, including sewer lines and related components.
• Root Intrusion Management: Implement strategies to address and prevent root infiltration within the sewer system, utilizing tools like RootX to combat root intrusion, especially in areas with limited access. (RootX)
• Monitoring and Compliance: Ensure the wastewater collection system operates in compliance with environmental standards and regulations.
• Emergency Response: Respond to and manage emergency situations, such as system failures or overflows, to minimize impact and restore service promptly.
• Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with other departments and agencies to coordinate efforts and share information related to wastewater collection and maintenance.

Plans and coordinates the preventive maintenance program for Augusta Utilities Department distribution and collection systems throughout the Augusta area within the guidelines of regulations, standard construction, maintenance practices, and county codes. Works with the distribution and collection system employees compiling data, following trends, and providing technical support—reports to the Assistant Director.

• Implements and coordinates a program of day-to-day and preventive maintenance for all equipment assigned to Augusta Utilities Department. Develops maintenance plans and schedules maintenance activities using sound asset management principles and CityWorks.
• Troubleshoots mechanical problems in the field as they arise while enforcing occupational and safety guidelines
• Develops training programs for operators of equipment.
• Develops strategic plans for system expansion of the maintenance group while reviewing developments with engineers and contractors. Provides information on water and sewer operations as needed.
• Manages assigned personnel, conducts staff meetings, and serves as a resource to subordinate personnel.

Job required strong leadership and organizational skills. This provided an opportunity to supervise, train, and coordinate duties of subordinate personnel while developing and enhancing technical knowledge of the water distribution and collections systems.
• Collaborate with co-workers through efficient communication to develop and execute
detailed plans to enhance the operation and maintenance of the sewer collection system
• Responsible for evaluation of lift station inspections; streamlining and efficient
operation of water distribution and collection systems; ensuring compliance with
environmental standards through review of blue prints and the work order system
• Identify and capitalize on opportunities to assist subordinate’s professional development
through training, counseling, and advising personnel on technical issues with the water distribution and collection systems

Job consisted of the performance of a variety of tasks to facilitate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the various aspects of water distribution and collections systems operations. This included comprehensive interdepartmental cross-training and working closely with a wide range of personnel from different Augusta Utilities Department divisions.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance tasks through development of field note system enhancements, coordination with asset management team personnel, and providing assistance to Management with EPD reporting
• Responsible for the handling and responding to customer calls and complaints involving a range of service issues, including sewer backups and service interruptions
• Operation of CCTV(Closed Circuit Television) equipment, SL-RAT (Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool), and heavy-duty industrial equipment and vehicles in order to assess problems, process and complete daily work orders

Job required performance of utility related duties that may include preventive and corrective maintenance on facility equipment and grounds.
•Assist in preventive maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor and serve as a helper for other maintenance personnel
•Perform general maintenance to include carpentry and plumbing
• Maintain vehicles and equipment, operate machinery with moving parts, and utilize hand tools and power tools
