11 years water and waste water
I started out building houses as a teenager, then commercial carpenter, focused on foundations and concrete work. Walls, tanks, vaults etc. working for subs or taking jobs as a sub. Then I went back to houses as a partner with a small GC for a couple years. Then to Superintendent in commercial and restaurants for a few years.
Got into water and waste water 11 years ago and it has been very good to me. I find myself challenged regularly with the details and rules of infrastructure work.
Being able to fall back on my experience in the fast paced restaurant and commercial environment taught me to pay attention to scope of work and the schedule of values when dealing with subs.
Being a subcontractor myself a few times is an advantage when setting others up for success but not allowing them to take advantage of any situation. During Pre-con meetings we get real clear on scope and expectations.
My experience with homeowners fine tuned my ability to deal with clients and vendors and their sometimes very unique personalities.
