Joshua Selvathambi

I am passionate about tutoring, especially in mathematics, where I focus on making complex concepts simple, engaging, and easy to understand. I use clear explanations, creative strategies, and memorable problem-solving tricks to help younger students build confidence and truly grasp the material rather than just memorize it. I strive to make every session interactive and encouraging, creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and challenging themselves. My approach has consistently produced strong results, with every student I’ve recently worked with earning above a 95% on the tests we prepared for together.

As a high school student, I actively volunteer at as many school events as possible, consistently stepping up to support teachers, staff, and administrators wherever needed. I contribute my time both during and outside of school hours, assisting with event setup, coordination, and student engagement. In addition to earning service hours through my high school, I am involved in multiple clubs and organizations where I take on volunteer roles and leadership responsibilities. Through these experiences, I have developed strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills while demonstrating reliability, initiative, and a genuine commitment to serving my school community.

During my electrical engineering internship, I gained hands-on experience assembling and testing electronic systems. I soldered and repaired circuit boards, ensuring clean connections and proper component placement. I learned to program Arduino microcontrollers to control sensors, LEDs, and small devices, developing a strong understanding of embedded systems and basic circuitry. Additionally, I used a Raspberry Pi to integrate hardware and software, running code to manage inputs and outputs for small-scale projects. This experience strengthened my technical skills in electronics, coding, troubleshooting, and system integration while improving my problem-solving and attention to detail.

As a Teacher’s Assistant for a high school STEM instructor, I supported four classes by assisting with daily classroom operations and long-term planning. I helped develop and organize curriculum materials for the upcoming school year, ensuring lessons aligned with course objectives and standards. I assisted with grading assignments, tests, and projects, providing organized feedback and maintaining accurate records. Additionally, I helped manage class schedules, organize student groups, and coordinate materials and lab setups. This role strengthened my leadership, organization, communication, and time-management skills while giving me valuable insight into curriculum development and classroom management.
