My experience working as a police officer in Haiti had a significant influence on who I am now. My encounters with the community, the streets, and the police force gave me priceless insights into the struggles and resiliency of the Haitian people.

There were fresh challenges every day. The intricacies of my position ranged from combating crime in different communities to keeping the peace during protests. The political environment was frequently unstable, so navigating it called for both alertness and a steadfast dedication to justice and equity. I was aware that wearing a uniform gave me security and power, but it also carried with it the duty to serve as an example and a source of encouragement for the neighborhood.

The atmosphere of the community was amazing. Notwithstanding the difficulties, Haitians are resilient, always finding ways to come together in times of need. I was continually inspired by the strength and solidarity I witnessed, whether it was during disaster recovery efforts or in day-to-day interactions. These moments reinforced my belief in the power of community engagement and collaboration.

One of the most significant challenges I faced was the lack of resources. The infrastructure and equipment often fell short of what was necessary to perform our duties effectively. However, this taught me the importance of resourcefulness and adaptability. It was a constant reminder that determination and ingenuity could overcome even the most significant obstacles.
