Controls Lead, Automation and Integration.

The Controls Lead for Automation Integration coordinates the shop's required technological activities from initial planning through the electrical build execution phase to pre-commissioning of the equipment for a Software start-up.
Additionally, I assist the Software Engineers throughout the start-up in preparation for the final acceptance testing of all automation projects before shipping to customer facility locations.


Role and responsabilities.

  • Attends the Project Managers kick off meetings to ensures a SOW is provided to shop planning, controls manufacturing identifying total content for the integration pre commissioning tasks and execution.
  • Reviews the PM project timelines and provides shop feedback on capability, internal capacity to meet the schedule and milestone deadlines.
  • Reviews the controls integration statement of work based on strategic sourcing, what will be released as a "turnkey build" and what will be manufactured internally (or locally outsourced).
  • Provide that scheduling information to the BPM processing release and final assembly teams.
  • Monitors controls purchased parts, both ordering requirements and delivery, 2/4/6 week look ahead.
    Identify specifics for material timing miss-alignment, creating shortage list for Project Manager.
  • Consistent communication with electricians, assist to schedules in-house or contingent resources needed to perform the integration and pre commissioning objectives on a project-by-project basis.
  • Ensures adherence to customer specifications and established supporting specific procedures.
  • Attend the Manufacturing Kickoff, weekly Build Status meetings, gathering information relevant to integration planning and pre commissioning.
  • Monitors and provides job status updates, manpower requirements to Manager's and ensure that the integration team is appropriately staffed to meet both immediate and future demands.
  • Conducts a shop floor Integration status meeting to ensure that work assignments are understood, tracked and the commissioning statuses are clearly communicated and documented.
  • Identifies changes both internally and externally. Communicates change requests and NCRs to the Manager's. Communicates back with Engineering issues and lessons learned, implement corrective actions as necessary.

Controls Technician

  • The Controls Technician provides support to production operators and maintains, tests, and repairs electrical/electronic, PLC, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components. They apply knowledge of software/electrical/electronic and mechanical principles to determine equipment modifications and malfunctions and restore equipment to operation. They will support all production and physical plant equipment in the facility.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops proficiency in operating of all automation system software/technology based on sit location (alignment systems, AGVs, heating solutions, etc).
  • Provides operations technical support on PLCs, HMIs, and network interfaces throughout the manufacturing floor.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical/electronic equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, numerical controls, power supplies, drives, gages, test equipment, etc.
  • Services electronic equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuit modules, printed circuit boards, fuses, and similar electronic devices.
  • Maintains and installs communication, power distribution, and wiring and performs splicing as required.
  • Performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theory and principles, written specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
  • Receive wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications, and instructions, both verbally and in writing, concerning emergency and scheduled repair, installation, and inspection work to be performed.
  • Plans details of working procedures to determine material or replacement needs and determines a logical approach to repair problems.
  • It creates a clear write-up and tie-in for any problems encountered, troubleshooting steps taken, corrective actions, root cause, and next steps.
  • Updates and creates training and knowledge transfer documentation for the supported control systems.
  • Starts up and shuts down equipment according to operation requirements, company safety procedures, and OSHA requirements for machine activation and shutdown.
  • Promotes and complies with good safety practices and habits, including but not limited to the use of all PPE.

I am a 30-year-old United States Marine Corps veteran who loves boating, fishing, camping, biking, and traveling with my family of five. I love the automation industry and have experience in the Aerospace industry, the petroleum industry, and Plastic extrusion industries. I formally graduated with my Associate's degree, where I studied an enormous scope of Advanced manufacturing in the Ohio FAME program—graduating Summa com laude as the first graduating class for this program.
