Working for United Parcel Service for almost 5 years has taught me many valuable skills for a potential career. For instance, I use communication and problem-solving techniques with my co-workers daily to ensure that company time is used efficiently. In addition, I am reliable and trustworthy as I am always pushing for safety and security. See, United Parcel Service handles high-value material, such as deadly chemicals, medicine, and some military equipment It is up to me to make sure none of these items are damaged or missing. I am also trained on specific hazardous materials that we are allowed to ship. In addition, I also had to use technological devices such as a personal diad and a scanner. I take my job seriously and am thankful that this company has helped me evolve as an employee and person.
Interning with a non-profit company such as Meals on Wheels was one of the most valuable and rewarding experiences. Although it may seem like this is a meal-delivering company it is much more than that. Most of our clients are vulnerable elderly individuals who cannot provide for themselves. Therefore my job was to deliver meals to them. However, while making deliveries I was trained to do investigative work on the clients. For instance, I would conduct wellness checks when I delivered the meals. I would usually make small talk with the clients and while doing so, I would make observations. For instance, are there any new bruises on their body from a recent fall or are they slurring their words from a recent stroke. If there were any concerns I would use the software designed for this company on my mobile device to log information and contact first responders. From this internship, I learned how to use new investigative techniques, use new technology, and communicate well with older individuals.
