Summary

I am deeply passionate about helping others find strength and hope, especially those who feel unheard or underrepresented. As someone who is neurodivergent, I’ve faced my own battles with dyscalculia, severe panic attacks, and social anxiety, and I know what it’s like to struggle. These experiences have fueled my desire to make a difference.

While at Wheaton College, where I’ll graduate in May, I created a research paper and slideshow on panic disorder and its effects on children—work that allowed me to combine my personal journey with my passion for advocacy. My dream is to become an occupational therapist so I can help others rise after setbacks and embrace their full potential. I’m seeking an internship that will not only prepare me for a master’s program in OT but also help me grow as a person and empower others to do the same.

Furthermore, attending this internship will also benefit me in the occupational therapy program by equipping me to aid clients struggling with achieving a positive mindset and finding happiness amidst challenges. Within my own personal experience, I always wanted to help others when they are in pain or struggling. My grandmother recently suffered a stroke and she is one of the most influential people in my life and this event significantly impacted her life. Observing her struggle with speech impairment, lack of awareness of her surroundings, and inability to perform daily activities independently due to her advanced age and developmental changes has deeply influenced me. Seeing the occupational therapist guide her through the process of relearning basic functions such as chewing and walking, and witnessing the positive impact of therapy on her confidence and overall well-being, has reinforced my determination to pursue a career in occupational therapy. Through understanding developmental, I aspire to help individuals who undergo experiences similar to my grandmother's, enabling them to find happiness despite the challenges one may face. I believe that by participating in the Blue Bird Day internship program, I can effectively work towards achieving this goal.
