Work History

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Florida Gulf Coast University
03.2023 - Current
  • execution in qPCR set up runs using qPCR technology for algal toxin gene assessment
  • Collected freshwater algae samples from local southwest Florida water bodies
  • Further assessed, identified and isolated algae found within the water samples
  • Can execute a multi-sample DNA extraction
  • Skills in graph analysis including melting curve graphs and amplification plots using qPCR technology
  • Efficient in sample transference and culturing of algal species using growth medium such as ASM and BS-11
  • Skilled in fluorescent gel analysis for genetic research using aggarrose, gel stains, DNA Loading Dye and comparison to low range and high sensitivity Gene Ladders

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Florida Gulf Coast University
10.2022 - 08.2023
  • Assisted faculty members with research analysis on ornamental garden plant projects.
  • Leachate from plant pots were collected and analyzed using a Hanna Nutrient Analysis Photometer
  • Leachate were also collected from plant pots using a Horiba LAQUAtwin Calcium ion meter
  • Became familiar in using the two mentioned collection instruments to measure phosphate, calcium, and magnesium concentrations
  • Became efficient in pH, sample temperature, and electrical conductivity measuring
  • Developed practice in time and resource efficiency
  • Analyzed fertilizer rates, compared analysis methods
  • Used an adaptation of the calmagite method for determining calcium, the oxalate method for magnesium, and the amino acid method for phosphate
  • Published a scientific note in the Florida State Horticulture Society 2023 proceedings
