Memory Matters

Memory Matters is a local non-profit serving Hilton Head Island and Bluffton SC for over

22 yrs. The mission is to support families dealing with the devastation of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia by providing dementia specific day program, caregiver support groups, educational classes, and resources. In addition to this service Memory Matters also focuses on brain health offering classes for people to learn about the importance of implementing the five pillars to help prevent memory loss, diet, exercise, meditation, socialization, and lifelong learning.

My responsibilities as the Associate Executive Director include:

• Community Education
• Program Development
• Oversight of day programs/staff
• Facilitating caregiver support groups
• Met with caregivers to develop a course of action by providing appropriate resources
• Writing bimonthly articles for a local newspaper related to brain health and dementia
• Educational presentations to groups

Brookdale/Southern Assisted Living

Educated local community of the benefits of assisted living and memory care

• Maintained the census for the 70 bed facility
• Facilitated caregiver support groups
• Co-chairman for Alzheimer’s Walk for 3 years to raise money for the regional Alzheimer’s Association
• Developed strong expertise and knowledge through participation in seminars and workshops

Compulsive Cleaning/Property Management

• Maintained an inventory of 20+ private homes and 30 short term villas
• Property management services for 15 private home owners. Responsible for scheduling purveyors for house maintenance
• Employed a staff of 15 part time persons

Daufuskie Seafari

• Provided historical and environmental tours of this unique barrier island
• Group events
