The Surgical Specialty Registered Nurse provides various direct care duties which include but are not limited to:

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components.
  • Rooming patients to facilitate clinic throughput, obtaining vital signs.
  • Administers medications, assist with office procedures to include sterile field setup.
  • Provides pre and post in-clinic or surgical procedure education and information about medications,
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction.
  • Oversees the safety of the patient, ensures correct labeling of specimens, cleans and stocks exam rooms, properly handles all reusable medical equipment and preforms.
  • Recognize subtle changes in the patient's condition and will respond timely, choosing the correct interventions.
  • Uses the Automated Medicine Dispensing System and/or the Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) software per policy and accurately document in the Electronic Health Record the patient findings, assessments, and care provided.
  • Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems that result in improved patient outcomes as well as ensures that delegated tasks as assigned are completed by other staff.
