I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer for Gigi's Playhouse of Atlanta's annual summer camp for 4 consecutive years. Starting in 2015 and ending 2019, I participated in the summer camp by working one-on-one with a child who has Down Syndrome by cultivating a relationship with them and assisting them with camp activities as needed. Most of the camp's activities that were planned out were rooted in skills that Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy tend to focus on and develop. Some of those skills included using scissors, glue sticks, markers and paint to create artwork and practice writing their name. The camp also hosted a range of group activities such as modified gymnastics, obstacle courses, dance classes, and games such as duck duck goose to practice turn taking and following instructions. At the end of the day when their parents came to pick them up, I would relay what the day's activities were and how their child did in each activity.
