Katelyn Bump

I recently joined a UC Davis-based laboratory for which I have spent this summer gaining the basic foundations of knowledge that I will apply in vitro during the next few years. Our current projects involve researching links between diabetes and Alzheimer's, as well as exploring the use of myoglobin in the human body.

(Summer position)

• Organizing group activities among students to foster teamwork and social growth.
• Teaching kids techniques to form the foundation of their tennis game and build skill and athleticism
• Mediating arguments by guiding students through effective communication and importance of patience and emphasizing the importance of respect - and if needed, discipline.
• Collaborating with other coaches to create exercises and build individualized plans for each student to succeed.

(At-home position: Location of the lessons vary, and lessons typically occur weekly over summers.)

• Informing myself on updated exercises and techniques.
• Navigating court usage and coordinating a schedule.
• Modifying teaching style to fit each student's needs.
• Using a short amount of time productively to maximize good quality, understandable coaching.

• Learned and became certified in CPR and First Aid skills necessary for the job.
• Enforced a safe environment for swimmers and non-swimmers by enforcing pool rules and monitoring the pool area.
• De-escalated tense situations involving members and swimmers.
