Work History

Para-educator coordinator

Mill River Union High School
08.2019 - Current
  • I currently work at Clarendon Elementary School, through the Mill River school district. I am a para-educator coordinator, I decided to switch to a school setting so I could work with kids. I really enjoy working with kids and helping them at a younger age. Working at the school I have been able to work closely with OT to figure out the best sensory options for the child. Also how to use various different techniques and proper ways to use the equipment. Working in this job I have had to use de-escalation skills everyday. It is a very big part of the job being able to talk to the children in ways that will help calm them down. De-escalation can look different depending on the child and situation at hand.

Direct support professional “DSP”

Rutland Mental Health
07.2015 - 08.2019
  • I worked four years at Rutland Mental Health, two years I was a direct support professional “DSP”. I would advocate for the person I was working with to help them communicate their needs and goals. I worked with adults that had different needs some of which are, Autism, down syndrome, medical, visual impairments, were just some of the different disabilities I worked with. I realized I had really enjoyed working with people on the autism spectrum the most. I believe all disabilities are an ability and it is just figuring out how they see the world. I then moved to be an Employment coordinator, I had a caseload of 16 people that either had jobs or that needed a job. I would coordinate between their work manager and their DSP to make sure everything was going well. If the DSP called out I would fill in. Also would go to different places to ask about jobs, if they had any available. Help fill out applications and go to their interviews with them for support. Communication with the team was a big part of the job. Making sure the proper paperwork was done and on time.

Dog trainer

Petco
04.2013 - 07.2015
  • I worked at Petco for two years, in those years I became a dog trainer. I had to identify the problems and behaviors the dog was having. Teach the owner methods how to train their dog. Develop a training plan for in class and at home methods to use. Creating a welcoming environment for the dog and owner. Also be able to understand the needs of the owner and their dog.

Security Officer

Rutland Regional Medical Center
07.2010 - 08.2012
  • I worked per-diem as a Security Officer overseeing the safety, security, and well-being of patients and staff. I also had to ensure that the hospital facility is secured at all times. During times of crisis I was required to be able to de-escalate situations that could be potentially dangerous. Using my interpersonal skills to be able to deal with people and staff, I was able to build a good working relationship with all. This position included that I maintain appropriate paperwork to be completed by the end of my shift. I had to leave this position due to pregnancy per doctor’s orders.

Intern

Rutland Police Department
10.2009 - 06.2010
  • I observed many duties of a police officer and all of the duties of an animal control officer during my supervised internship. I went on many ride “a longs” while observing the requirements of both a police officer and animal control officer. I had the opportunity to help investigate animal abuse reports that came in while helping to secure the safety of animals that were being abused. following the regulations to provide them with a safe and secure place. This included the monitoring of stray animals. I chose this internship because I had a special interest in this field.
