Work History

Stroke Navigator

Tallahassee Memorial Hospital
01.2021 - Current
  • Included tracking the patients during admission and following the patient after discharge to ensure that clinical practice guidelines were met. Goals within this role are to lessen barriers within the hospital, decrease length of stay and always make sure the patient got what they needed for stroke, reducing complications and prevention of secondary stroke.
  • I was able to practice skills independently to achieve a better workflow process that would more efficiently care for our stroke patients. I created the current workflow that we follow for the stroke navigator role. Designing spreadsheets to track daily audits, phone calls to patients, and coordination with office managers for neurology to schedule stroke patients necessary for follow ups. I created a stroke class with available CEU for nurses, stroke skill fair presentations with CEUs and tests for evaluation of the nurse’s knowledge. I engaged with the nurse residency program to regularly increase knowledge of stroke documentation standards for new nurses and established closer relationships with all units within the hospital so that they could actively reach out for assistance with daily care of our stroke patients. This has proven to be highly effective, as evidenced through the data of our current performance measures. I have attended meetings that introduced new physicians identified for the year to discuss required stroke care. Establishing these relationships throughout the hospital is integral to achieve the highest safety measures for our patients. Without these communications, stroke care would not be provided with its entirety.
  • I have also had the opportunity to complete the stroke dog and many of our current and previous stroke program managed closed chart audits to help maintain the data required by The Joint Commission. I have assisted in tracking compliance for our action plan related to Joint Commission. I have participated in a variety of outreach events within our community. Outreach has given me good perspective of the needs within our community related to stroke. I cherish all the connections that I have made through stroke education for our patients, families and community.

Vogter Neuro Trauma ICU Nurse

Tallahassee Memorial Hospital
01.2015 - 01.2021
  • I learned to apply critical thinking skills to a variety of critically ill patients. I was expected to be proficient in ACLS in order to care for patients within the ICU as well as take the lead in MET calls throughout the hospital. I participated in ECOS educational training program which gave me knowledge for the management of the intubated patient, external ventriculostomy drains, bolts, possible pacing devices, medication drips, sedation and/or paralyzing agents (utilizing Bispectral Index and Train of Four).
  • I cared for a variety of stroke patients (SAH, SAH coilings, hemorrhagic, ischemic stroke patients within interventions including mechanical thrombectomy, stents, and/or after receiving thrombolytic therapy). Maintaining the care of the patient after a complex stroke has given me a foundation for understanding the unique intricacies of this patient population.
  • I worked as a charge nurse and a nurse preceptor to sharpen leadership attributes. I worked diligently as a patient and family advocate while in collaboration with our physicians. The entire ICU experience helped strengthen me not only as a nurse but also as a person. These challenging patient scenarios was a fundamental part of my growth in every way.

Neurology/ Neurosurgery and Neuro Intermediate Care Unit Nurse

Tallahassee Memorial Hospital
06.2013 - 01.2015
  • My primary responsibility in this role was providing care to neurological devastated patients in collaboration with the healthcare team and application of the nursing process. Also, developing leadership skills through unit huddles, training new colleagues and participating in unit research studies to improve the care of the hospitalized patient. This was my very first experience with the world of neurology. It was my introduction to neurodegenerative diseases, neuromuscular disorders, disorders of the brain, spine and nervous system. This was the foundation for my neuro nursing experience as a nurse.

Emergency Care Technician, Bixler Emergency Center

Tallahassee Memorial Hospital
04.2012 - 06.2013
  • In this role I assisted the patient care as a new member of the healthcare team. I obtained many skills through this experience such as the insertion of straight and indwelling catheters, blood draws, splinting, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and wound care. This position served as a wonderful experience while obtaining my professional nursing education.
